         This movie is about Mariana a mother of two, Gabriel and Andrea. They grew up in Colombia without their father since he came to the United States to seek the American dream and help his family suffering from poverty. After years of being alone in the United States, Marianna decides to reunite with her husband in New York City and moves to the United States with her children. Everything seems perfect as the family sits down to eat dinner enjoying their favorite dish, empanadas. That same night that they reunite, Antonio celebrates because he found a better job. He does not consult with his family about this until in the morning when he is about to leave to Miami. His wife suggests that she goes with him too but he says he will be back soon. Time passes but he does not return. Marianna discovers through his friend that her husband has abandoned her and is not coming back. The news makes her desperate and worried since she barely came to the United States. She does not know anyone and is alone in a foreign place. She has no job and no idea of how to survive in the United States. She has no money and there are bills she must pay. She becomes desperate to feed her children and starts selling empanadas in the street which is not enough. Marianna struggles to support her family in a place she does not speak the language but is able to provide for her family financially and emotionally after being homeless for a long period. Despite her husband abandonment, Marianna is able to succeed on her own. Many women come to a foreign place not knowing the struggles that come with it. One depends on a man financially but the protagonist in this movie shows that although she was a single mother and felt alienated in the United States, she was able to help her family succeed. She found creative ways to make a living and put food on the table. Despite her struggles, she shows to be a proud, successful woman of color
